Madonna has lost one of her beloved family members this year! In mid-February, Madonna’s older brother Anthony Ciccone passed away aged 66.
Anthony was one of Madonna’s seven siblings. His death was confirmed by their brother-in-law, Joe Herney, who is married to Melanie Ciccone, with a heartfelt Instagram post.
At the time, Herney hasn’t shared much detail regarding the cause of Anthony’s death.
Well, his cause of death has now been revealed more than a month after his death. On Sunday, April, 2, TMZ reported Anthony had died from Oropharyngeal cancer, a combination of respiratory failure and throat cancer.
Before his death, the late celebrity brother had been getting treatment at a Michigan nursing facility which was paid for by Madonna.
As we earlier reported, he had long struggled with alcoholism, which led to homelessness, and his relationship with his famous younger sister was challenging.
According to the outlet, Anthony had his feeding and breathing tubes removed two days before he passed, despite knowing the consequences.
After his passing, he has been cremated, according to his death certification.
Anthony Cicone is survived by his son, Angelo Lawson-Smith.

After that, she added,
“You planted many important seeds,” alongside a red heart emoji.
