Magda Szubanski performed Too Cool for Sandals with Tom Gleisner and Michael Veitch while she was at the University of Melbourne, in 1985. Her performance was spotted by Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC)’s producers who then contacted her.

They convinced her to join hands with other friends to create The D-Generation, a television sketch comedy show.

The team created the television sketch comedy Fast Forward. She along with her female friends produced and performed the first all-female Australian sketch comedy program, Big Girl’s Blouse in 1995. After that, she made her appearances in TV programs including ‘Kath & Kim’, ‘Dogwoman’ (1999), ‘Magda’s Funny Bits’ (2006), ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’ (2009).

Moreover, Magda Szubanski appeared in several movies which include ‘Babe’ (1995), ‘Babe: Pig in the City (1998), ‘Happy Feet and Happy Feet Two’, ‘And the Golden Compass’ (2007).

Apart from acting, she is also an author and has written an award-winning book. Her memoir Reckoning was published in 2015 and won her TBA, a $40,000 Douglas Stewart Prize for Nonfiction, Book of the Year, and Biography of the Year at the Australian Book Industry Awards.
