After her father’s death, Manuela flees from Columbia alongside her mother and brother and travels to many different countries in search of their safe shelter and haven.

These included Brazil, Ecuador, South Africa, and Peru before they ultimately settled for refugee in Buenos Aires in Argentina.

She also changed her name to Juana Manuela Marroquin Santos.

Manuela and her father were both injured in the 1988 bomb explosion outside their mansion, leaving him later deceased and her deaf.

She has remained largely out of the public eye.
