Markus Persson is a Swedish video game programmer and designer. He is also known as Notch and has created Minecraft.

Markus is also the founder of the video game company Mojang.

He was born Markus Alexej Persson on June 1, 1979, in  Stockholm, Sweden. His father, Birger, was a Swedish railway employee, and his mother, Ritva was a Finnish nurse.

Markus Persson from the age of 7 started to do programming. He did this on his father’s Commodore 128 home computer. He then along with other game developers Carl Manneh and Jakob Porser, founded a video game company Mojang in the year 2010.

Then his survival sandbox game named Minecraft was released on 18 Nov 2011. It has sold about one-millionth copies. This made Markus get recognition in the video game world. But later Majong was brought by Microsoft for $2.5 billion.

Markus’s other free game titled Caller’s Bane was released in 2012 after making a lawsuit settlement with  ZeniMax Media.

He also worked with an alternate reality space game in March 2012 known as 0x10c. However, its production was halted in Aug 2013.

This popular video game developer has been criticized many times. He has tweeted several controversial tweets. He offended females by saying feminism a social disease and is overtly sexist against men.

His homophobic and racist tweets of June 2017 and Nov 2017 respectively were also highly backlashed. In March 2019, his comment on a transgender woman calling her mentally ill grabbed lots of criticism.

All these views that Markus Persson expressed on social media resulted in his dissociation with Microsoft.
