Melania Trump reveals her mom, Amalija Knavs is no more
Amalija Knavs, the mother of Melania Trump, passed away at age 78, the former first lady announced via social media on Tuesday.
Mrs. Trump wrote in a heartbreaking statement on X, former Twitter,
“It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of my beloved mother, Amalija,”
Her statement continued,
“Amalija Knavs was a strong woman who always carried herself with grace, warmth, and dignity. She was entirely devoted to her husband, daughters, grandson, and son-in-law. We will miss her beyond measure and continue to honor and love her legacy,”
Melania’s followers sent their condolences to the family during the tough time. One wrote,
”God Bless our Great First Lady, Melania and the entire family. Condolences and Deepest Sympathies for their loss”
Another commented,
”We all are sad that you have lost your beloved Mother. She sounds like a very special woman. God Bless her soul.”
A third follower commented,
”No matter who you are or how old you are, I believe there is nothing on earth that is more painful. Blessings to you Mrs. Trump. Hold your son extra close to find the comfort you need.”’

The Trumps shared a great relationship with the Knavs
The shocking news comes after Donald Trump announced at his New Year’s Eve event at Mar-a-Lago to reveal why his wife was absent from the family gatherings during the holiday season. He told the crowd that Melania skipped the celebration to be there for her mom at the hospital.
Speaking to his attendees, the former president said,
“Melania — great first lady, so popular, the people love her — she’s now in a hospital with her mother. Her mother, Amalija, is very ill, but hopefully she’ll be recovering.”
The 77-year-old political figure continued,
“But she’s been very ill, so I just want to say ‘hello’ to the first lady — we just spoke, down in Miami, great hospital — and hopefully they’ll be ok.”
”But it’s a tough one, it’s a very tough one. She knows probably about 95% of the people in this room. We just want to wish Amalija that she gets better as quickly as possible.”
Melania was very close to her mother and her father, Viktor Knavs, 79.
The Knaves were living at Mar-a-Lago in recent years, where the Trumps also reside.
A source close to the family told People,
“[Amalija] has an excellent relationship with Melania and with Barron,”
“They love her. She is unselfish and takes care of the family. Melania has always been super good with her mom as well as Barron.”
The insider further revealed that Barron was extremely close to his grandmom. They said that there were times when he was more with his grandparents than his parents.
Viktor and Amalija received U.S. citizenships from a federal court in New York City in August 2018, during Trump’s presidency.
