On August 11, the popular game show, Jeopardy, announced that executive producer Mike Richards would be the permanent host.
Alex Trebek hosted the venerable quiz show for 36 years until his death at the age of 80 in November 2020. Sony initiated a series of guest hosts before finding a permanent host for the show.
However, fans don’t seem to be very happy with Mike being the host of Jeopardy. Here is all you should know about the host and his career in the entertainment industry.
Who is Mike Richards?
Michael G. Richards who is famous as Mike Richards was born on 5th July 1975 in Burbank, California, United States. He is one of the most popular television personalities and producers in the USA. The 45-year-old is best known as the second host of Beauty and the Geek. he has also produced numerous game shows which include Weakest Link. Previously, he was the executive producer of The Price Is Right and Let’s Make a Deal until the end of the 2018-19 season. He was also the candidate to host The Price is Right before Drew Carey took over as a host.
Mike joined Sony Pictures Television where he was assigned to Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? However, he also became a co-executive producer with Jimmy Kimmel.
Richards has also hosted several other shows like High School Reunion, Beauty and the Geek, Dailies, The Pyramid, and Divided.
Apart from producing gigs and hosting, he has appeared on two episodes of the soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful. Back in 2009, he appeared as an interviewer, and four years later, he also played the character of Thad.
Richards is the new host of Jeopardy
After 8 months of various celebrity hosts, Mike Richards has finally taken over the game show as a host. In August 2021, the game show revealed Richards and Big Bang Theory alum Mayim Bialik would split the hosting duties.
He is also the executive producer of the famous game show which was released in 1984. The chairman of Sony Pictures, Ravi Ahuja, released a statement saying:
“We are thrilled to begin the next chapter of America’s Favorite Quiz Show with Mike hosting our daily show and Mayim hosting new versions of Jeopardy!,”
The official announcement of the show host came less than a year after the demise of Trebek at the age of 80. He was battling stage IV pancreatic cancer.
Mike did not know he was going to be the host of the show until three days before the announcement. The host also mentioned he has no preparation for the show ‘Jeopardy’.
