Myka Staufer adopted Huxley in 2017

Back in 2017, the YouTuber shared a video entitled Huxley’s EMOTIONAL Adoption VIDEO on her channel. In the video, she documented the journey of adoption when she and her family flew to China to adopt a toddler.

The video also shows Huxley meeting his new parents and sibling for the first time. This video became one of the most viewed videos on her channel.

After two weeks, the YouTuber’s mom shared another video where she talked about adopting Huxley.

In the video, she explained her experience of meeting her son for the first time. She mentioned during the adoption things did not go as planned and she was okay with that.

Moreover, she also mentioned Huxley kicked while she was trying to hold him. Afterward, she continuously shared several videos of Huxley where he was adjusting to his family in the United States.

Her Youtube channel documented the journey of Huxley growing up. This also helped her channel to grow continuously as her subscribers loved the updates of her son.

Myka Stauffer revealed she gave up her adopted son

On May 26, 2020, Myka uploaded a video titled “An update on our family” where she appeared with her husband. In the video, the couple revealed that they gave up their adopted son to the new family.

After the release of the video, the couple received a huge backlash from their audience. In the video, they explained with tears that they gave up their son to accommodate his medical need of Huxley.

Furthermore, they also revealed they did numerous therapies and intense interventions. However, after years, they had to face some painful feedback from their doctor.

Myka further explained:

“After multiple assessments, after multiple evaluations, numerous medical professionals have felt that he needed a different fit and that his medical needs — he needed more,”

Moreover, in the video, they also mentioned they have placed him as the perfect match to have a better life. Meanwhile, they also went on to explain they maintained silence about the situation to maintain the privacy of their son.

Further, she mentioned:

“He is thriving, he is very happy, he is doing really well, and his new mommy has medical professional training and it is a very good fit,”

She has also edited her Twitter bio from mother of five to “Subscribe and follow my life with 4 kids”. They have also made some changes to their channel and have also deleted some of the content.

The backlash from the audience and critic

After the release of the video, Myka Stauffer received a huge backlash from her audience. Meanwhile, they also got some support where they addressed her as a strong woman.

One of the comments from her viewers commented:

“I respect you so much for having the courage to make such a heartbreaking and hard decision. You are such great parents, you have to do what’s right for him first and foremost,”

Though she got both backlash and support, some also mentioned her as a problematic parent. One of the freelance writer Sophie Ross pointed out Myka’s saying when she mentioned her decision to move Huxley to less costly speech therapy.

The therapy mostly cost around $70 rather than $500 for 30 minutes. Further, in the tweet, Ross also pointed out that Stauffer of wearing a “~$6500 Cartier bracelet on her wrist.

In the blog, the writer also wrote:
