Peter Aerts started his professional career as a kickboxer in 1985. Initially, Peter lost some of his fights for a few years.

His first victory was in 1989 holding the world title. In 1991, Peter switched to the famous Chakuriki Gym and gained great success when he defeated the legendary Frank Lobman via unanimous decision.

His career took heights and one after another he started defeating Maurice Smith and Adam Watt. He again took the victory against Frank Lobman in the 1992 WMTA World Heavyweight Muay Thai Championship.

Peter started another stage of his career from K-1 Grand Prix after defeating Peter Selkthorpe and Maurice Smith which gave Peter the reputation as a top-level kickboxer. Peter faced Ernesto Hoost in the quarter-finals but lost the match by majority decision.

Later the same year he made his first defense of WMTA World Heavyweight Muay Thai Championship against Rob van Esdonk and knocked him out. Peter won the K-1 world championship in 1994 for the first time and again won it the next year. Peter won its third K-1 world championship title in 1998 winning the tournament in the record time of 6:43 minutes.

Peter’s winning title came to an end in 2000 when Cyril Abidi managed to drag Aerts into a brawl and caused a huge upset by defeating him in round one.

He again rematched with Abidi in the quarter-final ok K-1 Grand Prix 2000 but was unable to win. In 2003 Peter went up against Alexey Ignashov and he was declared as the winner unanimously and advanced into the semis for the first time since he won the Grand Prix in 1998.

In 2006 Peter returned to the ring as a reverse fighter by defeating Musashi in a first-round knockout. Aerts met Glaube Feitosa in the semifinals, winning his fight by TKO in the second round.

Unfortunately, he lost the fight in the finals against Semmy Schilt by unanimous decision. In 2007 K-1 World GP won the fight at end of the first round by TKO corner stoppage and qualified himself for the 15th consecutive year to K-1 World GP 2007 Final. After winning the quarter-final and semi-final.

Peter lost the bout by TKO in the first round after suffering a knee injury. Peter’s fans and critics believed that he was too old and past his prime but Peter was determined to return and began training under Thom Harinck in 2009.

He took part in a tournament at K-1 World Grand Prix 2009 Final and defeated Gökhan Saki by unanimous decision.

Peter dropped more weight and came into the fight at 97Kg but was knocked down twice in the first round before getting knocked out with one of Kyotaro’s famous punches in the second. Peter can also be seen in the Dutch comedy film New Kids Turbo.
