Shakira is reportedly accusing the Spanish prosecutors of creating a conspiracy against her as they sued her for tax fraud. The star believes they are launching a smear campaign against her.

The Hips Don’t Lie singer claimed that the authorities violated her right to privacy by making the matter public and without the presumption of innocence.

The Grammy winner’s authorities also explained the reasons why the singer is not liable for the tax bill, claiming that she was not a resident of the European nation during the period in question.

The Spanish Law says that the 45-year-old has to only pay taxes to the Spanish government if she spends 183 or more days in the nation in one year.

The case started in September when a Spanish judge ordered the Whenever Wherever singer to start a trial for reportedly not being able to pay nearly $14 million in taxes on the income she earned between the duration of 2012 and 2014.

The mother of two claims to be innocent but if found guilty, she could be getting up to 8 years behind the bars and a fine of a whopping $24 million.

Shakira, however, denies that she was a full-time resident of Spain for those two years and that she actually paid $10,141,075 in taxes to the US government.

But prosecutors are accusing the singer of declaring herself a Spanish tax resident in 2015 after she settled there with her former partner, Gerard Pique, and their two sons, Sasha,7, and Milan, 9.

Shakira is planning to move to the states with her sons

Just a few months ago, the footballer and the performer broke up after nearly a decade of togetherness and share the custody of their two sons.

The exes released a joint statement on their Instagram account that read:

The exes have reportedly agreed to sell their Barcelona mansion when they used to live with their two sons.
