Prince Christian of Denmark has introduced his new girlfriend to the family, especially grandmother Queen Margrethe.

Crown Princess Mary‘s eldest son, Prince Christian is reportedly dating Princess Maria Chiara di Borbone. The young couple bravely took the next step in their relationship.

The 17-year-old prince reportedly invited his girlfriend to join the monarch for tea at their family home in June. A royal insider confirmed the news to Woman’s Day,

“Chiara was presented to Queen Margrethe over the summer and they all took tea together. Christian knew they’d hit it off and was thrilled that she invited them to tea. It’s an informal stamp of approval for Chiara because Margrethe doesn’t take tea with just anyone,”

“However, she does take very seriously her lineage and takes it as her duty to invest time in Christian’s happiness and his choice of partner.”

Chiara has been practicing her curtsies for months to meet such an iconic Queen, who has reigned as Denmark’s monarch for over years. As a result, she has made a “good impression” on her, according to the outlet.

An insider told the outlet,

“There’s no doubt an engagement announcement is on the horizon and the palace is preparing accordingly,”
“Christian’s relieved – and so is his mum, Princess Mary, who has relied on her mother-in-law’s advice on what it takes to be a Queen from day one.”

Christian is second in life for the throne, behind his father and Princess Mary’s husband, Crown Prince Frederik. He will mark his 18th birthday four months later.

How long have Christian and Maria Chiara di Borbone been seeing each other?

In May, Christian was first spotted with the Italian beauty Chiara on a day out with friends at the Monaco Grand Prix.

The group picture from the event went viral online in which the pair stand close to one another. Maria Chiara’s older sister, Princess Carolina also featured in the same picture.

The two are childhood friends and their families were also close to each other. Chiara is the youngest daughter of Prince Carlo, Duke of Castro, to whom Christian’s little sister Josephine refers as godfather.

While speaking to one of the Danish press, the 18-year-old Italian princess shared that they are good friends and have a lot of fun together.

The duo was also spotted together enjoying ice cream in St Tropez just days before Chiara’s visit to the palace.

However, Christian and Chiara haven’t yet commented on their romantic relationship.
