Princess Catherine denies autograph to young fans
Princess Catherine visited the Chelsea Flower Show for the inaugural Children’s Picnic in London on Monday.
The princess’s surprise visit made lots of small fans happy and some even asked her for an autograph. But the future queen would not break royal protocol and politely declined the request because the British working royals are not allowed to sign autographs for the general public.
The princess was heard saying when a child asked why she could not sign autographs,
”My name’s Catherine. I’m not allowed to write my signature, it’s just one of those rules,”
But the kind-hearted royal did not leave her young admirers disappointed and instead made some beautiful drawings for them.
She explained to the students,
“I can’t write my name but I can draw,”
Catherine then sketched a flower for a 7-year-old girl named Ruby, a tree for another kid, and a pond encircled with plants for a third student.
Daily Express noted that royal family members are not allowed to sign autographs for anyone to prevent the risk of forgery.
Especially, Prince William, King Charles III, and other senior members are not allowed to write their monikers. However, the newly crowned monarch did break the rule in 2010 by signing an autograph for a victim of devastating floods, writing, “Charles 2010.” Since then, the 74-year-old king has not signed any autographs.

Catherine broke the royal protocol once
While scrawling their monikers is forbidden, the royals are allowed to take selfies with their fans.
Catherine fully obeys the royal rules but she recently broke the protocol in April by wearing red nail polish to a church service on Easter Sunday, ditching her classic light pink hue or clear coat worn by the late Queen Elizabeth II.
But Prince Harry’s wife Meghan Markle is famous for breaking royal protocols. Fans accused Markle of resisting the regulations when she was spotted holding hands with her husband at the Queen’s funeral in September 2022.
However, some sources claimed that the two were allowed to hold hands as they were no longer working royals.
They said,
“Harry and Meghan are grieving relatives and are under no obligation to follow royal protocol,”
“Their hands are there to support one another emotionally during this loss.”
The sources also noted that William, 40, and Catherine, 41, follow the rules for their own safety.
They noted,
“William and Kate know how things are done,”
“They take the bouquet and they pass them to the aides close behind them. They can’t carry all those flowers. The aides are going to put them with the other tributes. There can be a security risk handing things off.”
