The music world is mourning the death of the Rapper Magoo

Rapper Magoo is no longer alive among us. An early collaborator of producer Timbaland passed away this weekend in Williamsburg, Va. He was just 50.

His death was confirmed by music producer Digital Black via Instagram sharing the cover of Magoo and Timbaland’s 1997 album, Welcome to Our World.

In a caption section, he wrote,

“Man can’t believe this RIH Magoo damn big bro wasn’t ready for this at all #superfriends,”

However, the cause of his death is still yet to be disclosed. ‘Pony’ singer Ginuwine also expressed his grief on the loss of Magoo with a lengthy message in an Instagram post. The statement reads,

“I don’t even know how to say anything at this point, I have lost 3 friends now within a month to LIFE and it’s due date …this dude, always pushed me …I wish mis you maganoo that’s what we called him . . …totally one of the best ever in my eyes always pressing forward I know we didn’t talk alot but the love was and will be always there my brotha , I will see you soon bro we all have our date and I’m expecting the bro hug when I get there,”

He also shared a photo of him that wrote “R.IP Soldier Melvin “MaGoo” Barcliff” next to the photo. The statement continued,

“I’m truly efd up right now foreal life is crazy… I hate going through this and losing people we love sometimes it makes you feel like you dont wanna feel the pain so you wanna be gone also …pain hurts ..man oh man blessings to the family all of my condolences.”

Further, Timbaland shared a video of the pair performing together while honoring him,

“This one hits different long live Melvin aka magoo !!! Tim and Magoo forever rest easy my king,”

Remembering Rapper Magoo’s Legacy

Magoo, full name Melvin Barcliff, was an American rapper and producer. He was best known for his collaboration with Timothy “Timbaland” Mosley.

The two met when they were teenagers and formed the duo Timbaland & Magoo in 1989. In a 2020 interview with YouKnowlGotSoul, Magoo shared how Timbaland impressed him with his DJing and producing skills.

“He was selling mixtapes back then, We’re not talking about New York City, Atlanta or Miami here. We’re talking about Virginia. It was not a hip-hop area,”

The duo put out several albums throughout their partnership such as Welcome to Our World (1997), Indecent Proposal (2001), Under Construction, Part II (2003), and more.

In 1998, he also released his solo album titled Tim’s Bio: Life from da Bassment.

Magoo is survived by his wife, Meco Barcliff.

Meco has a daughter named Detrice “Pawtt” Bickham” from her previous relationship, whom Magoo raised as his own. Similarly, the rapper has an aunt and uncle, Magdaline and Hiawatha Brown, whom he considers his mother and father.

They raised him alongside two sisters Portia Brown and Lynette Hawks.
