Ruth Strauss was young and beautiful. But life has been rude to her. She expired at the age of 46 due to rare lung cancer.

Ruth Strauss and her untimely death

Ruth Strauss who was the wife of the former England cricket team Captain Andrew Strauss died of rare lung cancer. She was just 46 years of age at the time of her death. Her death date has been stated as 28 December 2018.

She was diagnosed with lung cancer one year back in December 2017. Andrew had stepped down from his work at the England and Wales Cricket Board of which he was the director this October after serving it for 3.5 years. In May, he had updated people about her health:

“She was doing very well up until now.”

The exact type of cancer has not been specified.

Andrew Strauss’s statement about his wife’s death

The former skipper released a statement after the death of his wife. He said:

“It is with great sadness and immense grief that we have to announce that Ruth passed away today as a result of her rare lung cancer,”

Andrew added:

“Sam, Luca and I will miss her terribly.”

He went on to praise his wife and said:

“Anyone who has met Ruth will know how loving, caring and passionately protective she was of her family and it gives us huge comfort that she was in Australia, the land of her birth, surrounded by those who love her, in her final moments.
“We would like to send our heartfelt thanks to those that have helped with her treatment over the last 12 months, in particular the wonderful team at University College Hospital in London.”

Andrew said that they would soon start a foundation in her name. He said:

“Ruth desperately wanted to help those affected by this terrible disease and we will be launching a foundation in due course to raise much needed funds to aid research and also to offer support to patients and their families.”

Ruth Strauss and her married life

Andrew and Ruth met in a bar in Sydney in the 1990s. The couple married in 2003 and had a happy married life. They have two sons. The eldest is Sam and who is 13 while the youngest is Lucas who is aged 10.

Tom Harrison, who is the chief executive of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), said:

“Ruth was an extraordinary and inspirational person and will be greatly missed by everyone whose life she touched, including her many friends in cricket.
