Scottie Pippen: Gary Payton’s varying opinions about him, relationships, marriages, divorces, children!

American basketball player, Gary Payton, 55 was at it again. He is known for his ruthless and thrash talks about others. And he has tried to belittle another American basketball player, Scottie Pippen, 57 in the 1990s. Know what Gary told about Scottie.

Gary Payton belittles Scottie Pippen

Scottie Pippen, American basketball player is Hall of Famer. He played well but his contemporary, American basketball player, Gary Payton had bad-mouthed him. This happened in the 1990s when social media and internet were not as prevalent as they are now. And it was after the retirement of Michael Jordan.

Sports book author, Jeff Pearlman has mentioned that incident in his 2020 book Three-ring circus. Jeff writes:

When Chicago’s Scottie Pippen was playing without Michael Jordan, Payton went to town. ‘Where’s Mike at?’ he bellowed. ‘I ain’t scared of you now, Scottie. You ain’t top 50 of all time. You want me to show you my list? I had you at 51, Scottie. I had you at 51!'”

Gary would not see the seniority of the person about whom he used to trash-talk, Jeff states. Jeff continues in the book:

“When a journeyman forward named Jamie Feick once barked nonsense at Payton, he replied by noting, ‘Man, you won’t even be in the league next year.’ Moments later, to Payton’s delicious delight, an opponent asked him to hold his tongue: he had hurt Feick’s feelings. When Timberwolves coach Sidney Lowe (5-foot-11) stood to say something, the 6-foot-4 Payton shouted, ‘Sit down, you Smurf!'”

Down the lane, the opinion changes….

But years later, surprisingly, Gary had a different opinion about Scottie. He even started praising him and went on to state that Scottie was even better than Michael Jordan. Gary said:

As an all-around basketball player that can change the game, Scottie Pippen was that guy. He can guard everybody, he can score, he’ll do everything, he’ll make a big assist, he’ll make the big block, he’ll do things like that… the best player that makes everybody around better. Michael was just a guy who would score and make the big shots and make the big things,”
