The 77-year-old icon has given Selena her blessings for the new project.
Great Eastern Music, a publisher founded by Ronstadt’s manager, John Boylan, said in the announcement,
“The long-rumored Linda Ronstadt biopic is now up-and-running. Selena Gomez is attached to play Linda,”
“The two recently spent a few hours at Linda’s home discussing the project and getting to know each other,”
James Keach will be producing the exciting project. He was the one who produced the 2019 Ronstadt documentary The Sound of My Voice and the acclaimed 2005 Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line.
Fans think there is a strong resemblance between the two female superstars, who are both of Mexican descent.
Selena, 31, said during her appearance on On Air with Ryan Seacrest in 2015,
“I always used to get told that I look like her,”
“And I started listening to her music because of that.”
After announcing retirement in 2011, Linda suffered from Parkinson’s disease in 2013. The 11-time Grammy winner was famous for rock and country jazz and Latin music.
In 2014, she was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and was honored by Kennedy Center Honors in 2019 for her legendary career.

Selena Gomez’s new project comes amid her Golden Globes controversy
Selena recently got into a lip-reading mystery with her BFF Taylor Swift at the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday.
There were speculations that she was dishing about Kylie Jenner not allowing her to take a photo with Jenner’s boyfriend Timothée Chalamet. However, she denied the rumors saying that the besties were talking about something else.
Gomez also announced that she would be taking a break from social media on Tuesday.
Sharing a video of her boyfriend Benny Blanco spending some time with two kids on her Instagram Stories, she wrote,
“Focusing on what really matters,”
“I’m off social media for a while.”
In October, she also left social media for some time, explaining at the time,
“My heart breaks to see all the horror, hate, violence, and terror that’s going on in the world,”
“People being tortured and killed or any act of hate towards any one group is horrific,”
Noting that “violence needs to be stopped for good,” Selena said,
“I’m sorry if my words will never be enough for everyone or a hashtag. I just can’t stand by innocent people getting hurt. That’s what makes me sick. I wish I could change the world. But a post won’t.”
