Shakira, 45, and Ozuna have just dropped a new music video for the new track “Monotonia.” Shakira co-directed the video alongside Jaume de la Iguana, which was shot in Manresa, Spain.

The Grammy winner’s video comes four months after she ended her 11-year relationship with soccer player Gerard Pique. This is the second single that the Colombian star has released after “Te Felicito” with Rauw Alejandro.

The former couple, who are parents to sons Milan, 9, and Sasha, 7,  split earlier this year. Pique is presently dating Clara Chia Marti, with whom he cheated on Shakira.

Shakira’s new single “Monotonia”

Shakira had previewed the release of her new single Monotonia with cryptic social media posts that both fans and critics believed hinted at her contentious breakup.

Similarly, ever since her song’s release on Wednesday, October 19, fans have been speculating about the song’s lyrics and title word. Shakira makes a reference to her past relationship ending in the song’s lyrics, singing

“It wasn’t your fault, nor was it mine / I never said anything, but it hurt me / I knew this would happen.”

She also mentions seeing a person change during the course of a romance, adding

“Suddenly you were no longer the same / You left me because of your narcissism.”

She continues elsewhere,

“You’re distant with your attitude, and that filled me with restlessness / You didn’t give even half, but I do know that I gave more than you / I was running for someone who wasn’t even walking for me / This love has not died, but it is delirious.”

The music video’s storyline even resembles Shakira’s relationship with her ex

In the three-minute clip, Shakira is seen strolling in a supermarket before encountering an old love. Her past love then fires a cannon launcher into her chest, ripping out her heart and leaving a massive hole.

In the rest of the video, Shakira is battling against multiple challenges and tries to save her heart. At the end of the video, she locks her heart in a box to safeguard it. She then holds the key in her hand, implying that she might open it again someday.
