Shirley Eikhard died after losing a cancer battle on Thursday at Headwaters Health Care Centre in Orangeville, Ontario. Her death reason is cited to be the complications from cancer as revealed by publicist Eric Alper.
Shirley Eikhard, the Canadian singer-songwriter who was inducted into the Canadian Songwriter’s Hall of Fame in October 2020 is gone. Recalling her great work, she had written famous songs for Cher, Emmylou Harris, Anne Murray, Chet Atkins, and Bonnie Raitt.
Among all of her songs, Bonnie Raitt‘s Grammy-winning 1991 hit “Something to Talk About” is something that reminds her. For this song written in 1985, she has approached many singers only to get declined. Until one day Bonnie showed up an interest to record this song.
Coming on the achievements of Eikhard, she earned Juno Awards in 1973 and 1974 for a best country female artist. She released a recent album 2021’s On My Way to You just before her death.

Bonnie Raitt honored her songwriter who led ger achieve huge success in her early career through the song Something to Talk About tweeting,
I’m deeply saddened to hear of the passing of my friend Shirley Eikhard, the wonderful Canadian singer/songwriter who wrote my hit song, “Something to Talk About.” My condolences go out to her family and friends.
Bonnie Raitt also in another Twitter post wrote,

David Gogo Blues then tweeted about the passing of Shirley and his inspiration to write songs,
Sorry to hear that Shirley Eikhard has passed . When I was 21 I met with her to try and write a song, something that was fairly new to me. After a while we realized that we weren’t going to catch a fish, but she was lovely, and it was another chapter in my musical education.
