A Hall of Fame broadcaster and All-Star catcher, Tim McCarver has passed away at the age of 81. The National Baseball Hall of Fame confirmed his death that he died on Thursday morning, February 16 in front of his family members in Memphis, Tennessee.

MLB commissioner Rob Manfred has outpoured grief while gushing about the late Famed broadcaster Tim McCarver. The heartbreaking statement reads,

“Tim McCarver was an All-Star, a World Series Champion, a respected teammate, and one of the most influential voices our game has known. As a player, Tim was a key part of great Cardinals and Phillies teams in his 21-year career,”

“In the booth, his analysis and attention to detail brought fans closer to our game and how it is played and managed. Tim’s approach enhanced the fan experience on our biggest stages and on the broadcasts of the Mets, the Yankees and the Cardinals.”

Similarly, Phillies owner John Middleton also issued a statement while paying tribute to him,

“Tim joined the Phillies at the height of his career and returned for his final six seasons as a veteran leader, helping the club to three straight NLCS appearances and, ultimately, their first-ever World Series title,”

Tim McCarver was an American professional baseball player and television sports commentator. He spent 21 years of his baseball career on the field and another 40 years in broadcast over the span of his lifetime.

Throughout his field career, he was a two-time All-Star and a member of two World Series-winning teams. He played for various teams including St. Louis Cardinals, Philadelphia Phillies, Montreal Expos, and Boston Red Sox.

After his retirement, he became a broadcaster, calling games for the Phillies, Cardinals, New York Mets, New York Yankees, and San Francisco Giants. Similarly, he was an analyst for Fox, ABC, and CBS, where he called a then-record 23 World Series and 20 All-Star Games.
