He has a sister, Patricia West.

Talking about his educational background, he completed his elementary education from Bristol Grammer School. Later, he attended the John Lyon School. After that, he graduated from Regent Street Polytechnic in London.

Early & Acting Career

He started his career as an office salesman and recording technician. Later, in 1956, he joined Wimbledon Theatre as an assistant stage manager. It happens to be the first time that he got an opportunity to view arts from such close.

With each stage performance held in the theatre, he was more connected with the stage performer. In 1956, he wrote and produced the short, This Gun That I Have in My Right Hand Is Loaded. The same year, he debuted as a stage actor with the play, Caught Napping in Piccadilly Theatre.

After the play, he started making an appearance in the TV series too. In 1960, he debuted with the series Persuasion. In the mini-series, he portrayed the character of Charles Hayter.

After the series, he started featuring more and more series as an actor. Till the date, he has featured more than 50 series. Some of his famous series include EastEnders, Coronation Street, and Brass. 

Apart from the series, he is even more famous for movies too. Exploring his career as an actor, in 1966, he made his movie debut with the movie, The Deadly Affair. However, his role, Matrevis in the movie was uncredited. Two years after the movie, he appeared in the movie, Twisted Nerve. In the psychological thriller, he played the character of Superintendent Dakin.

Till the current date, he has appeared in more than 20 movies including Hedda, Rough Cut, and 102 Dalmatians. Last, in 2016, he featured the movie, Delirium as College Bursar. He appeared in the movie after seven years of a break as an actor.

Timothy West is also popular as a director too. However, most of his directed art pieces are related to theater plays. Some of his masterpieces play as a director include We Bombed in New Haven, The National Health and Trelawny of the “Wells”. In 2004, he even went for a tour as the director of H.M.S Pinafore.
