What is Queer Britain?
Queer Britain is a London-based museum dedicated to the LGBTQ community which honors their history, achievements, and struggles.
Likely to say, it is the pinnacle of years of efforts of co-founder and director Joseph Galliano to bring the LGBTQ museum.
It has finally given the UK’s first national LGBTQ museum 50 years after Britain’s first gay pride march.
Remembering the contributions of Queer, it had a temporary exhibition Virtually Queer in collaboration with the Salisbury Arts Centre in 2018.
The following year it organized an exhibition on Chosen Family in Mercer Street Showrooms, Covent Garden.
Britain’s first LGBTQ+ Museum
Queer Britain opened as a permanent museum on May 5, 2022. It all began with the “Welcome to Queer Britain” introductory exhibition.
Having opened the museum on the ground floor of 2 Granary Square it aims to have its first full exhibition in July 2022.
It has two rooms of material from the museum’s photography archive and covers all four galleries. The museum’s collection is later safely keepsake at the Bishopsgate Institute.

Hands behind Queer Britain
Galliano along with his team has raised funds through private individuals via Queer Britain’s patron and membership programs.
Not only that, but he also had Corporate partnerships fundings in its specific pieces of project work. Galliano the co-founder on behalf of the team of Queer Museum said,
“We wanted to open as quickly as we could with a celebration of photographic material that we’ve already exhibited. We wanted to be able to welcome people into the space with stuff that’s meaningful while we were preparing a more complex exhibition.”
What is upcoming for Queer Britain?
The LGBTQ+ museum is set to launch the We Are Queer Britain exhibition in July 2022. According to sources, it will comprise 50 different voices while marking the celebration of 50 years of Gay Pride in London.
The program and march will run until spring 2023 remembering the struggles and culture of LGBTQ history.
