Why do people celebrate Pride Month?

Pride Month celebration begins when Brenda Howard, a bisexual New York activist organized the first parade to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the Stonewall uprising. She is also famous as the Mother of Pride.

Stonewall uprisings is a series of spontaneous demonstrations by members of the gay community back in 1969. The police raid in the early morning hours of June 28, 1969, at the Stonewall Inn in the Greenwich Village neighborhood.
