Vili Fualaau files for divorce from wife Mary Kay Letourneau

55-year-old school teacher Mary Kay Letourneau’s former student and presently her husband Vili Fualaau have filed for legal separation from her. Vili Fualaau is 33 years old.

NBC affiliate KING has managed to procure the court documents. Fualaau’s advocate, Whitney Gardner informed that Fualaau has requested privacy for his family at this time.

He did not divulge the reason for the separation cited in the petition. He does not want any media following during these emotional moments for his family and himself.

Attempts were made to contact Letourneau’s lawyer by phone and email, but there seems to have been no response from their side.

It is presently not known what was the precipitating reason for the end of this unique teacher-student relationship.

Vili Fualaau’s signature was dated 8^th May 2017, while the filing of the petition was done in King County Superior Court, Washington on 9^th May 2017.

Fualaau has mentioned in the filed documents that his two daughters with Mary Kay Letourneau are no longer dependent on them and the jurisdiction over them does not apply.

In the petition, Vili Fualaau has also mentioned that there was no prenuptial agreement or separation contract made and filed between Fualaau and Mary Kay.

Vili has also stated in the court documents that neither he nor Mary Kay owns any real property. He has asked the court to do a fair division of their personal property.

The couple resides in the same house presently, the documents state. Vili Fualaau has declined any need for an Order of Protection.

When Vili Fualaau was asked whether he needs any restraining orders in the final orders, in this case, Vili Fualaau answered that he would like to keep the answer ‘reserved’ for a later time.

What is the reason for the separation?

Vili Fualaau has mentioned that he is still in love with his wife, but he is separating from her for his pot business. It has been stated that Vili Fualaau has applied for a licensed marijuana cigarette distributor.

He told Radar Online:

“When you want to get licensed, they do background checks on both parties … I have to be licensed and I have to be vetted and so does a spouse. She has a past. She has a history.”

Vili Fualaau was talking about Mary Kay’s seven-year incarceration for sexual relationships and rape with her 12-year-old student and presently her husband Vili Fualaau.

On her part, Letourneau has filed a ‘bizarre petition’ which has requested for her husband’s filed petition to be dismissed. She is contesting the petition which is strange.

The couple’s unique love story

Mary Kay was married to her classmate Steve Letourneau while studying at Arizona State University. She had four children with Steve.

But their marriage was in turmoil due to financial problems and extra-marital affairs of both husband and wife. Mary Kay Letourneau started teaching second grade at Shorewood Elementary School.

She was praised for her capacity to understand children. But soon there were some weird revelations. Mary Kay Letourneau, the 34-year-old married mother of four children started a romantic relationship with her 12-year-old student Vili Fualaau.

In the summer of 1996, she raped Vili Fualaau. She became pregnant with his child. One of the relatives of her husband Steve contacted the police and Mary Kay was arrested in May 1997.

In an interview, Mary Kay had said:

“There was a respect, an insight, a spirit, an understanding between us that grew over time. It was the kind of feeling you have with a brother or sister — a feeling that they’re part of your life forever.”

Her first daughter Audrey was born in May 1997. She was given 6 months jail term, and six years of sex offender treatment, and was told to avoid any contact with Vili Fualaau.

On 3^rd February 1998, just two weeks after her release from jail, Mary Kay was found having sexual relations with Fualaau in her car. She was impregnated by Fualaau for the second term. She was re-arrested and sentenced to 71/2 years of imprisonment.

n October 1998, her second daughter Georgia was born. In 2002, Fualaau’s family filed a case against the School and Police authorities for failing to protect their child from Mary Kay, for their emotional trauma, their lost wages, and the cost of rearing Fualaau’s two daughters.

However, they did not receive any damages. On 4^th August 2004, Mary Kay was released. By that time, Fualaau was already 21 years old.

He asked for a reversal of the no-contact order against Letourneau which was granted. In 1999, Mary Kay sought a divorce from her husband and gained custody of her four children. On 20^th May 2005, Mary Kay and Fualaau got married in Woodinville, Washington.

Fualaau said:

“I’m not a victim, I’m not ashamed of being a father, I’m not ashamed of being in love with Mary Kay.”

Mary Kay also considered their relationship eternal and endless.

They are very much in love with each other. Their story has been penned into various books, into a TV film, and a candid interview with the family.
