All about Anson William’s dramatic marriages and divorces

Anson Williams gained popularity with the classic 1970s sitcom Happy Days. Thanks to the success of the show, the character of Potsie became a household name ever since it aired on TV.

His personal life, however, has been dramatic ever since he appeared on the show.

Anson married his Happy Days co-star Lorrie Mahaffey who was his onscreen love in the famous show.

It was during the episode called Potsie Gets Pinned that the couple’s love story reached heights but fans still didn’t have the slightest inkling of their months-old romance in real life.

The couple fell in love more than a year before their episode was filmed. The two went on to do several more episodes which strengthened their relationship.

After knowing the romance, fans showered their favorite couple with tons of love letters in 1978.

The couple got married in 1978 and welcomed their daughter Hannah.

Ultimately, that put an end to Mahaffey’s rising career.

No matter how strong the relationship seemed from the outside, the couple started having their own marital problems and got divorced in 1986 after nearly 8 years of marriage.

Why did Williams divorce his second wife twice?

Nearly two years after divorcing Lorrie, Anson met Jackie Gerken with whom he remained married for 30 years before filing for divorce.

The couple welcomed 3 children together, Olivia, Gabriella Rose, and Stella Rayne.

Despite being together for so many years, the couple could not save their marriage and in 2019, Anson filed for divorce.

Anson again withdrew his filing claiming that the couple would stick together for the sake of their children.

But things did not go as planned and just after 10 months, Williams filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences.

He said:

“When I canceled the divorce filing in September, we agreed for the sake of the children to remain apart and to lead separate lives.”
“However, even that arrangement didn’t work, and our status needed to be clarified with a decree of divorce.”
