How did Barack Obama’s personal chef die?
Barack Obama‘s personal chef, Tafari Campbell drowned while paddleboarding on a pond outside the family’s Martha Vineyard estate.
Police authorities confirmed on Monday that the former first family’s chef, 45, was found in 8 feet of water about 100 feet from the banks of the Obamas’ property on Edgartown Great Pond.
The Obamas previously hired Campbell as the sous chef in the White House kitchen while Barack was in office. He then worked as his personal staff when Obama’s term as the president of the United States of America ended.
Emergency responders arrived at the 30-acre estate on Turkeyland Cove Road on Sunday evening after getting reports of possible drowning nearby.
Rescue efforts like divers, Coast Guard helicopters, and resources from multiple agencies arrived at the property to find Campbell.
Finally, around 10 a.m. on Monday morning, Campbell’s body was recovered using sonar scanners deployed from a boat.
Another man who had been paddleboarding on the pond when Tafari Campbell drowned said he saw him struggling in the water.
The chef was wearing all black and did not have a life jacket on at the time.
Tafari’s wife posted an emotional tribute to her husband saying that she will forever be changed by the tragic loss.
She wrote on Instagram early Tuesday underneath a smiling photo of her late husband posing in the kitchen,
”My heart is broken. My life and our family’s life is forever changed,”
”Please pray for me and our families as I deal with the loss of my husband.”

“Tafari was a beloved part of our family,”
“When we first met him, he was a talented sous chef at the White House — creative and passionate about food, and its ability to bring people together. In the years that followed, we got to know him as a warm, fun, extraordinarily kind person who made all of our lives a little brighter.”
They added,
“That’s why, when we were getting ready to leave the White House, we asked Tafari to stay with us, and he generously agreed. He’s been part of our lives ever since, and our hearts are broken that he’s gone.”
The former first family concluded,
“Today we join everyone who knew and loved Tafari — especially his wife Sherise and their twin boys, Xavier and Savin — in grieving the loss of a truly wonderful man.”
