He played for the Pau-Orthez of the LNB Pro A and competed in the league’s All-Star game and Slam Dunk contest. He won the European Junior Championship with the French National Team in 2000. He got selected by the Atlanta Hawks in the 2003 NBA draft and signed a multi-year deal.

In August 2005, Boris Diaw was traded to Phoenix Suns in exchange for Joe Johnson. He recorded his first career triple-double in 2006 in a match against the Philadelphia 76ers which they won. He recorded his fifth career triple-double in 2006 in a match against Golden State Warriors which they won.

On 11 December 2008, Boris Diaw was traded to Charlotte Bobcats. During the 2011 NBA lockout, he signed with JSA Bordeaux of France but returned to the Bobcats in December 2011.

On 21 March 2012, he left Bobcats, and two days later he signed with San Antonio Spurs. He again resigned from a two-year contract worth $9.2 million with the Spurs on 12 July 2012. He won his first NBA Championship with the Spurs on 15 June 2014 after defeating Miami Heat. He again signed a three-year contract extension worth $22 million on15 July 2014. He also played for Team Africa at the 2015 NBA Africa exhibition game. On 8 July 2016, he was traded to Utah Jazz and he has been playing for the team since then.
