Celine Dion: An update on her health and vocal cord problems!

Healthy and well-functioning vocal cords are a singer’s priced organs. And, due to any reason, if they get affected, it would mean the end of the singer’s career.

We had last reported that singer Enrique Iglesias is having trouble with his vocal cords. And now, it is learned that Canadian singer, Celine Dion also has problems with her singing organs.

Celine Dion and her stiff person syndrome diagnosis

Canadian singer, Celine Dion was diagnosed with stiff person syndrome around one year back. This is an incurable and progressive neurological disease that affects the body’s muscles.

In January 2022, her rep revealed that she had canceled her tour and concert dates due to her ill health. It was stated that she has muscle spasms.

Later, Celine, 55 told her fans in December 2022 that she has stiff person syndrome. She put up an emotional video on her Instagram:

“I’ve been dealing with problems with my health for a long time, and it’s been really difficult for me to face these challenges and to talk about everything that I’ve been going through.”

And in May 2023 came the bad news that she has canceled and postponed all the remaining tour dates until further notice.

Celine’s sister, Claudette talks about Celine’s health

Last month, Claudette Dion, 74 gave an update on Celine’s health. She praised Celine for her efforts to overcome the disease but added that the disease has taken control of the singer and her muscles including the vocal cords. It is crippling the singer.

The disease causes damage to the body’s nerve cells and leads to muscle spasms. These can be severe enough to even break the bones. Celine’s singing organs are also affected adversely by the disease which is affecting her career. Claudette stated:

“It’s true that in both our dreams and hers, the goal is to return to the stage. In what capacity? I don’t know,”

The update was an honest one and Claudette revealed:

“There are some who have lost hope because it is a disease that is not [very well] known,”
“What pains me is that she has always been disciplined. She’s always worked hard. Our mother always told her, ‘You’re going to do it well, you’re going to do it properly.’”

The concerned sister added that Celine wanted to come on stage and perform but she is realizing that it would be difficult in the present scenario.

Loss of angelic voice is the main anguish

An insider told Radar Online:

“Celine would be content to just sit in a chair and sing to entertain her audiences,”
“But her voice is just not coming back the way that would allow her to perform or record again.”

The source added:

“She has spasms in her vocal cords. She can sing fine — just like you know Celine for a few notes, then a spasm kicks in and throws what she’s singing completely out of whack.”
“Sadly, it’s doesn’t seem to be repairable — whether through surgery or therapy.”

Celine had a double tragedy in 2016 when she lost her husband and brother to cancer.
