The former cheerleader, who found fame in the Netflix documentary series Cheer pleaded guilty to child pornography. The federal charges convicting him include soliciting child sexual abuse imagery and illegal sexual conduct with a minor.
Chicago court sentenced Jerry Harris, the Navarro College cheerleader to 12 years in prison on July 6, 2022, Wednesday. He was found guilty of two of seven federal charges related to sex crimes involving minors on February 10, 2022.
He allegedly persuaded a 17-year-old to send him sexually explicit photos for money and also sexually explicating conduct to a 15-year-old.
Jerry Harris was initially found not guilty on all seven charges
Harris the cheerleader had initially pleaded not guilty to all seven charges in December 2020. He who had been held at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago since his arrest is now sent to federal prison.
Harris was cross-examined for exchanging sexual photos on Snapchat with at least 10 to 15 people. The criminal complaint also involved him having sex with a 15-year-old at a cheerleading competition in 2019.
On the contrary, Harris did not plead guilty to four counts of sexual exploitation of children and one count of enticement. The seven charges for which he went to jail involved five minor boys.
Later on, only two counts were taken into consideration at the end of the case verdict. U.S. District Judge Manish Shah also sentenced Harris to eight years of supervised release following his 12 years sentence period in federal prison.
Federal prosecutors have charged Harris with assaulting, harassing, and grooming boys in his cheerleading circle, after learning about his misconduct via the FBI.
