Malia Obama loves hanging out with Dawit Eklund, who is reportedly her new boyfriend.

The couple has been spotted on various occasions in NYC and LA which fuels rumors of their romantic relationship. They were first linked together in July 2022.

Malia is the daughter of Barack Obama, the former president of the United States. Eklund is a record producer who co-founded 1432 R in 2014 with Joyce Lim and Sami Yenigun.

Eklund comes from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He was born to an Ethiopian mother and an American father.

His father worked for the US Peace Corps and his mother was an entrepreneur. Due to his father’s career, Dawit got a chance to live in many places like Egypt, Kenya, and Bangladesh.

He completed his high school at the International Community School of Addis Ababa. He later enrolled at and graduated from the prestigious George Washington University.

Dawit’s sister is a women’s activist in Africa

Eklund is one of his parents’ four children. His two sisters are Yodit and Sara. Sara is a philanthropist and activist who helps women throughout Africa.

She featured in Vogue in 2019 as she introduced menstrual cups in Ethiopia.

She said:

“It starts by talking, sharing stories about periods. When we give out the cups, we encourage girls to give it a shot, but of course they’re scared,”
