Delonte West has been playing basketball since 2004.  He started playing basketball professionally after being selected by Boston Celtics in the 2004 NBA draft.

He played for the team Celtics till 2007 and then on 28 June 2007, he was traded to Seattle SuperSonics.

Soon he was traded to Cleveland Cavaliers on 21 February 2008 which united him with his college teammate Dwayne Jones. On 12 September 2008, he signed a three-year contract extension worth $12.7 million with the Cavaliers.

He set his career-high of 8 steals against a match with Miami Heat on 2 March 2009. He was traded to Minnesota Timberwolves but he was soon released from the team in 2010.

Then on 1 September 2010, he resigned from a one-year contract with the Celtics and got suspended for being guilty of weapon charging in Maryland.

On 13 December 2011, West signed with the Dallas Mavericks but he was released from the team on 29 October 2012. During the 2011 season, he was suspended twice from the team Mavericks.

On 25 January 2013, Delonte West joined Texas Legends of the NBA D-League. He has also played for the Chinese team Fujian Xunxing signing a one-year contract in October 2013. He played for Los Angeles Clippers in the 2014 NBA Summer League.

West again signed a one-year contract with the Chinese team Shanghai Sharks in September 2014 but he was soon released from the team after playing for just four games.

On 12 January 2015, Delonte West signed with Guaros de Lara of Venezuelan Liga Professional de Baloncesto but left the team without even playing a single game.

On 12 March 2015, he joined Texas Legend but he was released from the team on 2 April 2015 due to his injury. Since then he has been a free agent.
