Ghislaine Maxwell has been found guilty by the New York federal court on five of six counts related to the case of Jeffrey Epstein‘s sexual abuse of minor girls between 1994 and 2004. She was found guilty of sex trafficking of a minor, transporting a minor with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity, and three related counts of conspiracy to sex trafficking.

The New York federal court reached the verdict after five full days of deliberation by a 12-person jury. Similarly, the verdict followed a month-long trial that featured testimony from four women who described being abused by Jeffrey between 1994 and 2004.

When the jury read the verdict out on 29th December 2021, Ghislaine did not show any emotion just poured herself a glass of water which she sipped twice.

Ghislaine Maxwell faces up to 65 years in prison but judge Alison Nathan did not set any sentencing date. The US Attorney Damian Williams released a statement,

“The road to justice has been far too long. But, today, justice has been done. I want to commend the bravery of the girls — now grown women — who stepped out of the shadows and into the courtroom. Their courage and willingness to face their abuser made this case, and today’s result, possible.”

After the verdict was passed, Ghislaine’s legal team said that they are working on an appeal. Her legal team was disappointed with the verdict and is confident she will be vindicated. Her family shared a statement,

“We believe firmly in our sister’s innocence – we are very disappointed with the verdict. We have already started the appeal tonight and we believe that she will ultimately be vindicated.”
