Iain Cook began his career as he formed a Scottish alternative rock band, Aereogramme in 1998 along with his mates, Craig B., Campbell McNeil, and Martin Scott. Later, in 2001, they signed with Chemikal Underground Record and released their first album, A Story in White.

In 2003, they released their second studio album, ‘Sleep and Release’ which was praised and lauded by critics. After one year, they released another album Seclusion which was followed by their last album, My Heart Has a Wish That You Would Not Go in 2007. The same year, the group was disbanded.

After a year of disbanding the group, he along with his former Aereogramme partner, Craig B formed another band, The Unwinding Hours.

They released their first self-titled album on 15 February 2010 and another album Afterlives later in 2012. Since 2013, the band is inactive as Iain is currently associated with the Scottish synth-pop group Chvrches and Craig B. released solo material as A Mote of Dust.

With Chvrches, Iain Cook and the mates have released the albums The Bones of What You Believe, Every Open Eye, Love Is Dead, and Screen Violence.
