Jennette McCurdy had a toxic mother

Jennette McCurdy made us believe all that glitters is not gold.

The former iCarly star was a literal star child of Nickelodeon. She was living the epitome of a complete teenage dream. But now we know that it was all a lie.

In her memoir, the star said:

“There was this half of my life that was so cheesy and so polished and so glossy and so fake,”
“And then there was this other part of my life that was so painful and real and raw and hurting, and that part was going completely unseen.”

The 30-year-old revealed that her mother, Debra, abused her physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Debra had dreamed of becoming an actress and forced her unfulfilled aspirations onto her daughter. Her stepfather was also not a very emotionally connected person.

McCurdy’s mother was a dictator who made every decision for her even in her teens. The mother-daughter relationship was very consuming.

She also said that she wanted to quit acting because she never really enjoyed it but Debra freaked out and guilted her into continuing the work no matter how much she hated it.

McCurdy confirmed Nickelodeon offered her money to shut her mouth

In her memoir, I’m Glad My Mother Died, the former child star has made serious allegations against Nickelodeon citing that she was not given the same privileges as her Sam & Cat co-star Ariana Grande.

Nickelodeon offered her $3,00,000 in hush money so she would reveal to the public that she faced abuse at the hands of someone whose identity is not mentioned.

She referred to him as The Creator. The Sam & Cat actress revealed that The Creator forced her to drink alcohol when she was barely 18 and massaged her shoulders in an inappropriate manner.

She said:

“My shoulders do have a lot of knots in them, but I don’t want The Creator to be the one rubbing them out. I want to say something, to tell him to stop, but I’m so scared of offending him.”

When she received the offer money, she was confused and did not know why she was getting it.

Her manager told her:

“They’re giving you $300,000 and the only thing they want you to do is never talk publicly about your experience at Nickelodeon,”

She rejected the money though her team told her its free money. She said:

“No it’s not. This isn’t free money. This feels to me like hush money…I’m not taking hush money.”
