Car Crash with Matthew Broderick

On August 5, 1987, Grey was injured in a car collision in Enniskillen, Northern Ireland. There, she was on a vacation with actor Matthew Broderick, who she was dating at the time.

The crash was the event that made their relationship public. It happened on a rented BMW. They crossed into the wrong lane and collided with a Volvo driven by a local mother and daughter of 63 and 28 who were killed instantly.

Matthew was convicted for careless driving and fined. Dirty Dancing was released a few weeks after the collision which skyrocketed Grey’s fame.

But, Jennifer Grey has admitted that her grief and guilt over the crash did not let her enjoy the film’s success, and even led her away from acting for some time.

Jennifer Grey was born on 26 March 1960 in New York City, USA. Her parents are academy award winner actor, Joel Grey and actress, and singer, Jo Wilder. She has one sibling, her brother named James Katz.

Jennifer Grey was enrolled at Dalton School where she studied dancing and acting. After, graduating in 1978, she took acting training in Neighbourhood Play House in Manhattan for two years.

Jennifer Grey made her big-screen debut with ‘Reckless’ followed by ‘The Cotton Club’ and ‘Red Dawn’ in the same year 1984.

She rose to prominence from the commercially successful film, ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off in 1986 and as  Frances “Baby” Houseman in ‘Dirty Dancing‘.  Later she was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for the Best Actress for Dirty Dancing.

In 1987, Grey suffered a serious injury in a car accident with her boyfriend. Later, she came up strong with big hits like If The Shoe Fits(1990), Wind(1992), and Bounce (2010) among the others.

Furthermore, she has appeared in many TV series such as Fallen Angels, House, The West Side Waltz, and Red Oaks.

 In the year 2010, she became the winner of the dancing reality show, Dancing With Stars (season 11). She also voiced Mrs. Kurokawa in the English dubbed version of the popular film, The Wind Rises.

From 2014 to 2017, Jennifer Grey portrayed Judy Meyers on Red Oaks. In 2018, she co-starred in the film Untogether. The movie was released on February 8, 2019.
