Later,  Johnny has drafted Cincinnati Reds in 1967 and was named “Rookie of the Year” and it for the first time a catcher won the award. He also got a chance to work for the United States Army Reserve as its 478th Engineer Battalion.

Johnny was also listed as the Most Valuable Player in 1970 and 1972. Johnny was also called as the best catcher in the history of baseball. Johnny Bench is still the record holder for Grand Slam home runs by Catcher. He earned ten golden gloves in his whole career.

Bench won the awards like The Hutch Award, Baby Ruth Award, Lou Gehrig Awards and much more. He is currently on the directors of Hall of Fame. Johnny also became a spokesman for Krylon Paint. He also became the golfer as a part-time player.

Johnny was selected to the All-Time Rawling Gold Glove Team. In the leisure time, he wrote the book “Catch Every Ball” published in 2008.
