Jones chose not to play in his senior season on January 7, 2011. Along with colleagues Marcell Dareus, Greg McElroy, and Mark Ingram, he instead decided to declare for the 2011 NFL Draft. He was then invited to the ESPN talent competition “All-Star Football Challenge” on February 4. Despite suffering a broken foot, he recorded the longest long jump and the third-fastest 40-yard sprint among wide receivers at the 2011 NFL Combine.

Although having Pro Bowl receiver Roddy White, the Atlanta Falcons selected Jones as their sixth overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft.  Julio became the Falcons’ first-ever picked wide receiver in team history. In the 40–24 win over the Kansas City Chiefs, he began his second professional season with six receptions for 108 yards and two touchdowns. He was also added to the Eagles practice squad on October 17, 2023.
