After becoming one of the Comedy Stores’ breakthrough acts in 1979 he appeared in numerous films in the Channel 4 series The Comic Strip Presents in 1980. He appeared in Comrades in 1986, a film about Tolpuddle Martyrs.

He appeared in Pepi’s The Poisoner in the final Carry On film, Carry On Columbus (1992), which was directed by Gerald Thomas and produced by Peter Rogers.

Keith Allen made his cameo appearance in the black comedy, Twin Town which was directed by his brother Kevin Allen. He was cast in the BBC adaptation of Martin Chuzzlewit the same year.

Allen appeared at the Almeida Theatre in two Harold Pinter plays in 2000, playing Lambert in Celebration and Mr. Sands in The Room, which was performed again in July 2001.
