Keith has worked as a standup comedian and vocalist, opening for rock bands such as The Clash, after having several jobs during the 1970s.

Acting Career

After becoming one of the Comedy Stores’ breakthrough acts in 1979 he appeared in numerous films in the Channel 4 series The Comic Strip Presents in 1980. He appeared in Comrades in 1986, a film about Tolpuddle Martyrs.

He appeared in Pepi’s The Poisoner in the final Carry On film, Carry On Columbus (1992), which was directed by Gerald Thomas and produced by Peter Rogers.

Keith made his cameo appearance in the black comedy, Twin Town which was directed by his brother Kevin Allen. He was cast in the BBC adaptation of Martin Chuzzlewit the same year.

Allen appeared at the Almeida Theatre in two Harold Pinter plays in 2000, playing Lambert in Celebration and Mr. Sands in The Room, which was performed again in July 2001.

In 2005, he co-starred in the Endemol-produced BBC Two television show Art School with Ulrika Jonsson, John Humphrys, and Clarissa Dickson Wright, where he found a love of painting.

Allen performed the Sheriff of Nottingham in the BBC Robin Hood drama series from 2006-2009. Similarly, he made his appearance In the BBC six-part drama series The Body Farm as DI Hale in September 2013.

Keith appeared in a revival of Richard Beans’ black comedy “Smack Family Robinson” at the Rose Theatre in Kingston upon Thames in April 2013.

Also, he played serial killer and rapist John Copper n the three-part ITV drama The Pembrokeshire Murders in January 2021.
