Who is Maksim Chmerkovskiy?

Maksim Chmerkovskiy is a Ukrainian-American dance choreographer and instructor.

He is also a Latin–ballroom dance champion. He is best known as one of the professional dancers on the American television series Dancing with the Stars.

Who are the parents of Maksim Chmerkovskiy?

Maksim was born on 17 January 1980, Odessa, Ukrainian SSR, USSR.

His nationality is Ukrainian-American and he is of Ashkenazi Jewish and Ukrainian ethnicity.

Maksim Chmerkovskiy is the elder son of his father Aleksandr Chmerkovskiy and his Ukrainian mother Larisa Chmerkovskiy. He has a younger brother named Valentin Chmerkovskiy, who is also a professional dancer.

At age 13, he broke his right leg in a skiing accident and had a titanium rod put in to stabilize his leg. He recovered from the injury six months later and started dancing again.

His family immigrated to Brooklyn, New York in 1994.

After that, Maksim Chmerkovskiy began working at a local Russian restaurant and dancing as entertainment.

Maksim Chmerkovskiy began his professional career as a dancer in 2001.

With his dance partner Elena Grinenko, he competed at the professional level in the International Latin category. He achieved the rank of 2nd in the United States and 7th in the world among professional international Latin couples.

In 2003, he became the La Classique du Quebec Champion. That same year, he won Ohio Star Ball Latin Championship.

Maksim Chmerkovskiy also became the All England Champion that year. Chmerkovskiy first appeared in the second season of the ABC series Dancing with the Stars partnered with actress Tia Carrere and they finished in sixth place.

After that, he competed in many seasons of the show and won the competition in its 18th season with his partner Meryl Davis.

After winning the show, he announced his retirement from the show. He has also made several appearances on the show as a guest judge.
