Who is Manny Pacquiao?

Manny Pacquiao was born on December 17, 1978, and is now 44 years old. Manny is from Kibawe, Bukidnon, Philippines, and his zodiac sign is Sagittarius. His full name is Emmanuel “Manny” Dapidran Pacquiao, Sr.

When Manny was in sixth grade, his parents separated.  Similarly, Manny has five siblings, and he is the fourth.

One of his siblings is Alberto “Bobby” Pacquiao. Manny’s brother is both a politician and a former professional boxer.

Manny attended Saavedra Saway primary School in General Santos City for primary education. Due to tremendous poverty, Manny dropped out of high school.

Manny’s maternal uncle, Sardo Mejia, initiated him to boxing when he was just 12 years old.

Manny stated in his autobiography that watching Mike Tyson’s defeat of James “Buster” Douglas in 1990 changed his life forever. Manny’s early interest in fighting sports was also sparked by martial artist Bruce Lee and boxing legend Muhammad Ali.

Manny Pacquiao: Professional life, Career

Manny began his professional boxing career in January 1995. He made his debut as a junior flyweight at the age of 16. Furthermore, Manny completed a high school equivalency exam in February 2007.

Manny went on to attend both Notre Dame of Dadiangas University and the University of Makati. Manny graduated with a bachelor’s degree in political science.

He studied local government administration as part of the Philippine Councilors League-Legislative Academy’s Expanded Tertiary Education Equivalency and Accreditation Program (ETEEAP).

Manny graduated from Makati on December 11, 2019, completing his collegiate-level education through the informal education system.

On February 18, 2009, Manny received the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Humanities (Honoris Causa) from Southwestern University (SWU) at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel & Casino in Lahug, Cebu City.

The institution did this in honor of Manny’s boxing accomplishments and humanitarian efforts.

Professionally, Manny Pacquiao is a well-known former boxer and politician. He goes by the nickname “PacMan” and is recognized as one of the best professional boxers of all time.

The Filipino boxer is currently a Senator of the Philippines and the head of the ruling PDP-L-Laban party.

Furthermore, Manny has won 12 major world titles and is the only eight-division world champion in boxing history. The professional boxer was also the first to win the lineal championship in five different weight categories.

He was also the first boxer to win major world championships in four of the eight glamour categories. These glamourous classifications include flyweight, featherweight, lightweight, and welterweight.

Furthermore, Manny is the only boxer to have won world championships over four decades, from the 1990s to the 2020s. Manny’s fights grossed $1.2 billion by 2015.

Similarly, in July 2019, Manny became the oldest welterweight world champion ever. He was forty years old at the time. He became the first boxer in history to be acknowledged as a four-time welterweight champion.

He has defeated 22 world champions during the course of his boxing career. Manny has defeated several champions throughout the years, including Chatchai Sasakul, Lehlohonolo Ledwaba, Adrien Broner, and Keith Thurman.
