Mark began his career in the media as a reporter on the Bournemouth Daily Echo in 1976. He then joined the BBC as a newsroom writer and became a news reporter in 1982.

Mark then joined ITN in 1986 and began covering sports events all over the world for ITV News. He then went on to cover various wars and crises in different parts of the globe.

Mark Austin received a promotion in 2002 and he then began working in the program, ITV Evening News and later became the chief presenter of ITV News in 2005.
