Melanie Lynskey and Jason Ritter welcomed a baby in December 2018
Melanie Lynskey and Jason Ritter welcomed a baby girl in December 2018. They announced the news the next month with Lynskey herself confirming the birth of their daughter on Twitter.
She wrote:
“We feel lucky to have been able to have our news just be for friends and family for a while, but I guess the story got out, so! Yes! @JasonRitter and I had a daughter in December. We love her so much; she’s perfect. Thanks to everyone for your sweet messages.”
Following that, she tweeted and addressed some rumors that had come out about the baby and the couple themself.
She wrote:
“I would like to correct a couple of things that have been stated in articles online. 1) Jason was NOT in Boy Meets World and wow that would have been pretty easy to check 2) I did NOT welcome the baby ‘quietly,’ I was blasting A$AP Rocky and yelling a lot.”

Jason and Melanie got married in 2020
During a conversation with Jess Cagle of SiriusXM in May of 2022, Melanie Lynskey shared that she and Ritter tied the knot in 2020 prior to her departure to film “Yellowjackets” in Canada.
She explained:
“Honestly, I got married because someone was like, ‘Jason won’t get into Canada unless you’re married,’ which just wasn’t true. We were waiting until like after the [pandemic]. “
She added:
“I was going to Canada for Yellowjackets, and I was on the phone with somebody, and they said, ‘Oh, he won’t be allowed in.’ And I was like, ‘We have a child. What? I can’t leave for six months.’ So, I was like, ‘We have to get married tomorrow.’ “
They exchanged wedding vows the next day in a small ceremony with two close friends at their own home. She recalled the event:
“We got married on our front porch of our little rental house in Atlanta. A nice lady came and married us. We had two friends there. Ali Ahn and William Jackson Harper … They brought a cake and flowers and everything we needed. It was actually a very fun wedding day, but it didn’t need to happen. He could totally have gotten into Canada.”
The couple is no strangers to cute Twitter exchanges
In October 2021, Lynskey playfully teased her partner after he advertised various items up for bid in a fundraiser for the Huntington’s Disease Society of America, but neglected to mention a reward that included an opportunity to spend time with the actress.
She wrote on Twitter:
“VERY SURPRISED that Jason chose to focus on the fact that you can bid on amazing original artwork by @_AlexHirsch @DanaTerrace & more, and NOT on the fact that you could win a zoom with me, but that’s ok, Jason. Get a zoom with me OR amazing original artwork, you decide.”
Jason was quick to respond and wrote:
“Hahaha!! I did a TikTok Live where I was very explicit about what a huge deal it is for a generally introverted person to donate a zoom! I love you so much, and thank you for looking after our daughter the whole time I’m doing this event tonight!!??.”
Three months after their first Twitter exchange, Ritter once again expressed his admiration for Lynskey through the social media platform.
This was in recognition of her interview with Rolling Stone magazine, where she candidly spoke about the issue of sexism in the entertainment industry and her successful series ‘Yellowjackets.’
He simply wrote:
“I love this incredible person.”
