Michael was born in  Raleigh, North Carolina, the United States on February 1, 1971, to parents William Carlyle Hall and Janice Styons Hall, his mother was a counselor at LeesMcRae College. Whereas, his father was an IBM employee.

He belongs to American nationality and mix (English- Irish) ethnicity. Talking about his education, firstly, he attended  Ravenscroft School. Then, he attended Earlham College. Finally, he graduated from the Tisch School of the Arts.

Talking about his profession, his professional acting career began in the theater. Off-Broadway, he also appeared in Macbeth and Cymbeline at the New York Shakespeare Festival, and in Timon of Athens and Henry V at The Public Theater, The English Teachers at the Manhattan Class Company (MCC), as well as the controversial play Corpus Christi at the Manhattan Theater Club.

He sang the role of Paris Singer. Similarly, he also appeared in Skylight at the Mark Taper Forum. Likewise, he also was part of the Texas Shakespeare Festival the summer of 1995. Whereas, he played Lancelot in Camelot, Lysander in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Claudio in Much Ado About Nothing.

Likewise, he became one of the best-known actors in New York and in the year 2001 Alan Ball cast him in his dark comedy series ‘Six Feet Under’ on HBO. Similarly, he worked on the show for the entire duration of five years. Two years after first appearing in ‘Six Feet Under’; he appeared in his first film titled ‘Paycheck’.

He first appeared in the show ‘Dexter’ in which played the role of a pivotal character who is a bit psychotic and his stupendous acting. Therefore, he has not acted in too many films in his career; he did return to the silver screen in 2009 with the science fiction thriller ‘Gamer’. Whereas, he made a return to the stage after many years when he appeared in the play ‘The Realistic Joneses’ in 2014 at Broadway.
