After the transition, she changed her name to Issa but wants to be Alia now.
Nearly a decade after, Alia believes that being a man is not what she feels good in.

Trans male turned into a female again after feeling incomplete

Alia Ismail, a 27-year-old transgender male is on a journey to de-transitioning back to her previous self. Ismail was very young when she realized that the female body that she was born in was not the right one for her.

She then underwent surgery and turned into a male by the name of Issa. After nearly six years of her surgery, she is now using her old name Alia again. Alia now believes that her male body did not truly believe who she was.

Transitioning was not an easy process for Alia. At 18, she started to show her masculine side by dressing as a boy and started using male pronouns. She underwent a major medical transition at the age of 20. Ismail also started taking hormones to increase the dose of testosterone in his new body.

Alia legally changed her name to Issa in 2015, one year prior to getting a double mastectomy in 2016.

But once Ismail realized he was not happy with what he was doing, he stopped taking medications in February 2021 and knew he wanted to de-transition.

What does Alia have to say about her de-transition?

The 27 years old said that she had no regret about the changes she made to her body. She also explained that her family was not harsh on her.

She said:

‘When I first came out as gay it was quite easy with my family. As far as transitioning, my grandparents were very accepting but lacked understanding, and my mother came to understand my feelings better as my transition continued.’

Alia further added:

‘That was a key time in my life of self discovery into the person I am today.”
‘My family were neutral in their feelings. They knew that I was strong enough to put myself through this unknown journey again and were proud of me for being true to myself.”

Ismail revealed that she has stopped taking hormones and received laser hair removal to get back into her feminine form. She confessed that she has no idea what the future holds for her but believes that things will change for the better.
