Nate Silver was born Nathaniel Read Silver on January 13, 1978, in East Lansing, Michigan, United States. His mother is of German and English descent.

He is the son of Brian David Silver and Sally Silver. His mother is a community activist and his father is a former chairperson of Michigan State University. Nate was interested in Mathematics from an early age.

Nate Silver became a writer for Baseball Prospectus (BP) in 2003. After a year, he took the position of Executive Vice-President at KPMG. He worked as a co-author for the Baseball Prospectus annual book of Major League Baseball forecasts from 2003 to 2009. He also co-authored other books including “Mind Game: How the Boston Red Sox Got Smart” and “Baseball Between the Numbers”. He also worked as a contributor for ESPN.com, Sports Illustrated, Slate, the New York Sun, and The New York Times.

Silver began his career as a Political analyst in 2008 and he is still working as an analyst for American elections. He predicted in several US elections and made many right predictions. He correctly predicted a victory for Barack Obama in the presidential elections of 2008 and 2012. He became a media attraction when he correctly predicted the winners of all 50 states during the 2012 presidential election. He published his famous books titled The Signal and The Noise in 2012 which reached the New York Times Best Sellers List.

He has been honored with several awards for his works and achievements. He was named “Speaker of the Year” by the Intercollegiate Cross Examination Debate Association (CEDA) in 2009 and he was honored by the National Museum of Mathematics at its “Race to the Finish: MoMath’s Annual Gala” in 2016.
