Oakland Raiders drafted Nnamdi Asomugha in the first round (31st overall) of the 2003 NFL draft. Starting as a cornerback in 2005 he scored a new high in tackles with 60 tackles and passes with 14.

He was able to record his first two career interceptions during the game over Cleveland Browns in 2006. He ended the season by scoring 50 tackles with 48 solos, a sack, a forced fumble, one touchdown, and eight interceptions.

He was given the name of the team’s Most Valuable player and even got Oakland Raiders ‘Commitment to Excellence Award twice in 2007 and 2008.

He got selected for the Dr.Z Sports Illustrated 2006 All-Pro team and The Associated Press 2006 All-Pro Team.

In the 2007  and 2008 seasons, he was selected as the Raiders Team Captain. He completed the season with 1 interception, 1 forced fumble, 9 pass deflections, and 40 tackles.

Asomugha again signed the three-year contract with the Raiders being the highest-paid defensive back in NFL history.

He got in the selection for the 2010 Pro Bowl, including, The Sporting News 2009 All-Pro Team and The Associated Press 2009 All-Pro Team.

He signed a five-year 60 million USD contract and at least 25 million USD assured, deal with the Philadelphia Eagles on July 29, 2011.

He scored a total of 40 tackles, 3 interceptions, and 5 passes defended in 2011 and was given the name 2012 Pro Bowl alternate. He was released from the deal at the end of the 2012 season.

He made a one-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers under which he would get to earn a base salary of around 1.35 million USD to 1.65 USD million.

He got waived by the team on November 4, 2013. To retire as a Raider he signed a one-day contract on December 26, 2013. On December 27, 2013, he announced his retirement.

In 2008, Nnamdi debuted his acting career by appearing in the American television series, The Game.

Asomugha is also a Chairman of the Asomugha Foundation, which functions two primary programs: Asomugha College Tour for Scholars (ACTS) and Orphans and Widows In Need (OWIN).

The annual ACTS program was launched by him in 2006.

He was given the name of Home Depot Neighborhood MVP 2007 for his community service works. He was awarded The President’s Volunteer Service Award in 2008.
