Paul Stanley is an American musician. Paul Stanley is also a singer, songwriter, and painter. He is best known as the rhythm guitarist and co-lead vocalist of the rock band Kiss.

Paul Stanely was born as Stanley Bert Eisen on January 20, 1952, in upper Manhattan, New York. His ancestry is Ashkenazi Jewish.

Both his father and mother are Jewish. He has an older sister, Julia, born two years earlier.

He was very good at graphic arts and therefore, attended the High School of Music and Arts, New York and graduated in 1970.

Despite his skill as a graphic artist, he abandoned that as a career and instead played in bands.

Hearing Problem

Stanley had microtia on his right ear from birth. Thus, he found it difficult to hear on that side. He was even taunted for his defect during elementary school.

Despite his hearing problem, Stanley enjoyed listening to music, and he watched American Bandstand on TV.

Kiss Band

Before Kiss, Stanley was a member of the local band Rainbow, Uncle Joe, and Post War Baby Boom.

Then he joined Gene Simmon’s band, Wicked Lester. Later in 1973, Peter Criss, and Ace Frehley joined and the band was named Kiss.

The American rock band is popular for its members’ face paint and stage outfits. The group rose to fame in the mid-to-late 1970s with their elaborate live performances, which featured fire breathing, blood-spitting, smoking guitars, shooting rockets, levitating drum kits, and pyrotechnics.

Stanley and Simmons are the only remaining original members as the band has undergone several lineup changes over the years.

Some of the popular albums of the band are Kiss, Destroyer, Creatures of the Night, Revenge, and Love Gun to name a few.

Stanley’s persona in Kiss is “The Starchild” displaying one star over his right eye.

Solo career

Stanley’s first solo album was a self-titled album released in 1978.

In 1989, Stanley sang lead on the title track for the soundtrack for a horror film shocker.

Paul Stanley released a second album, Live to Win, on October 24, 2006.

In October and November 2006, Stanley embarked on a theater tour in support of Live to Win and released a live album and DVD One Live Kiss in 2008.

In 2008, Stanley sang a duet with Sarah Brightman, ”I Will Be with You”, on her Symphony album.

In 2016, he guested in Ace Frehley’s cover album Origin, vol.1. 

Other works

In 1999, Stanley starred in a Toronto production of The Phantom of the Opera, in which he played the role of the Phantom.

He made his debut as a painter in 2006, exhibiting and selling original works of art.

Stanley published his autobiography, Face the Music: A Life Exposed, in April 2014.
