Who is Princess Isabella?

Princess Isabella belongs to Denmark’s royal family. She is Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary’s second child and older daughter. She is Queen Margrethe II and Prince Henrik’s fourth grandchild and oldest granddaughter.

Princess Isabella is the first female to join the Danish royal line since her great aunt, Queen Anne-Marie of Greece, was born in 1946. She is second in line of succession to the Danish throne, behind her elder brother, Crown Prince Christian.

Princess Isabella was born on April 21, 2007, at Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen University Hospital in Copenhagen, Denmark. A 21-gun salute was fired from the Sixtus Battery at Holmen Naval Base in Copenhagen and Kronborg Castle in North Zealand to commemorate her birth. Princess is a naturalized Dutch citizen who professes Christianity.

She will be 17 years old in 2024.

Similarly, her birth name is Isabella Henrietta Ingrid Margrethe, and her natal sign is Taurus.  She was born as the second child and eldest daughter of King Frederik X (Father) and Queen Mary (Mother).

She is Queen Margrethe II’s fourth grandchild and the eldest granddaughter of the late Prince Henrik. Isabella is third in line for the Danish throne, behind her father and older brother, Prince Christian. She also has younger siblings, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine.

Education, School

On August 13, 2013, Princess Isabella started school at Tranegrdsskolen in Gentofte, the same public school as her older brother. Isabella and her three siblings started a 12-week schooling program at Lemania-Verbier International School in Verbier, Switzerland, in January 2020.

Because of the worsening COVID-19 problem in Denmark, the siblings’ stay was cut short, and they returned home in March. A statement released in March said that Isabella will begin attending Herlufsholm School in August 2022.

Princess’ parents, however, announced in a statement on June 26, 2022, that she would not be starting at Herlufsholm after all due to recurring issues of violence, bullying, and sexual abuse at the school, and that she would instead begin 9th form at Ingrid Jespersens Gymnasieskole in Copenhagen in September 2022.

In August 2023, Isabella began upper secondary school at Øregård Gymnasium, where her father, Frederik, and uncle, Joachim, had previously attended.

On April 22, at noon, the Sixtus Battery at Holmen Naval Base in Copenhagen and Kronborg Castle in North Zealand fired a 21-gun salute in honor of Princess Isabella’s birth.

Furthermore, on July 1, 2007, she was baptized at Fredensborg Palace’s Royal Chapel, and her name was revealed to be Isabella Henrietta Ingrid Margrethe, after the Danish queen consort and ancestor Isabella of Austria. On April 30, 2022, Isabella received Lutheran confirmation in the same chapel, presided over by Henrik Wigh-Poulsen.

On June 6, 2015, Isabella’s first formal engagement was the baptism of the M/F Prinsesse Isabella, a ferry running between Jutland and Samsø named after her.She and her siblings joined their parents on official visits to Greenland (1-8 August 2014) and the Faroe Islands (23-26 August 2018), where she participated in many public engagements.

In 2007, Per Stig Møller, Denmark’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, signed a handwritten paper confirming Isabella’s place as third in line of succession to the Danish throne, as he had done for Prince Christian the previous year.

With the 2009 Danish Act of Succession vote, Isabella became the first princess in Danish history to not be overshadowed by a younger brother, Prince Vincent, born in 2011.
