Regina Spektor was born Regina Ilyinichna Spektor on the 8th of February 1980 in Moscow, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union.

Her father, Ilya Spektor is a photographer and her mother, Bella Spektor is a music professor by profession.

He has a brother, Boruch. Boruch is also a musician. They are of Jewish-Russian ancestry.

Early Life

As a child, the singer was very much interested in music and started playing the piano. At the age of nine and year, they emigrated to Austria during the perestroika period. Leaving her homeland and piano was full of pain for her and the family.

Then the family moved to Italy and the United States as refugees. Later, they settled in the Bronx with the help of the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society.
