Lance Reddick dies aged 60 from natural causes

Actor Lance Reddick, famous for his roles in HBO’s hit series The Wire and in the John Wick movie franchise as Charon, has passed away at 60. According to his publicist, the actor and musician died unexpectedly of natural causes in his residence in Los Angeles on March 17, 2023.

The authorities came to his house at approximately 9:30 AM local time, per the publicist’s statement to the US media.

Mia Hansen, Reddick’s publicist, requested privacy for the actor’s family during this difficult time and expressed her sorrow for the loss of the talented actor.

“Lance will be greatly missed. Please respect his family’s privacy at this time.”

The late actor is survived by his wife Stephanie and children, Yvonne, and Christopher.

Fellow actors and producers paid tributes to the late actor

Reddick’s death came as a surprise to everyone and many have already paid their tributes to the late actor. His co-star from John Wick, Keanu Reeves, and the director, Chad Stahelski released a joint statement paying their tribute to the late actor:

“We are deeply saddened and heartbroken at the loss of our beloved friend and colleague Lance Reddick. He was the consummate professional and a joy to work with. Our love and prayers are with his wife Stephanie, his children, family and friends. We dedicate the film to his loving memory. We will miss him dearly.”

Oscar winner Halle Berry wrote:

“My love and prayers are with the family at this very sad time. Lance was one of the most sincere people I’d ever met. Truly one of a kind ! RIP sweet king ?.”

The Wire co-star Wendell Pierce wrote on Twitter:

“A man of great strength and grace. As talented a musician as he was an actor. The epitome of class. A sudden unexpected sharp painful grief for our artistic family. An unimaginable suffering for his personal family and loved ones. Godspeed my friend. You made your mark here. RIP”

Additionally, actor Ben Stiller tweeted:

“Lance Reddick was a beautiful and compelling actor. And a beautiful person. He worked with my mom Anne Meara in her play ‘Afterplay’, playing Raziel, the waiter slash angel of death. He was exquisite in that and all he did.”

Also, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn wrote:

“Lance was an incredibly nice guy, and an incredibly talented actor. This is heartbreaking. My love goes out to all his family, friends, and collaborators.”

Lance Reddick’s wife Stephanie has thanked everyone for their love and support

Lance Reddick’s wife Stephanie Reddick posted from Lance’s Instagram account to thank all the well-wishers for the messages and tributes. She wrote:

“Lance was taken from us far too soon. Thank you for all your overwhelming love, support and beautiful stories shared on these platforms over the last day. I see your messages and can’t begin to express how grateful I am to have them.”

For the past seven years, Lance had been providing the voice for the character of Awoken Guardian Zavala in the video game series, Destiny. Fans of the popular game paid their homage to him by offering salutes and silently sitting alongside him.

She also thanked the Destiny players:

“And to the thousands of Destiny players who played in special tribute to Lance, thank you. Lance loved you as much as he loved the game. Donations may be made to momcares.org in Baltimore, his hometown.”
