Royal Ivey is an American well-known retired professional basketball player. He had played for different teams in the National Basketball Association (NBA).

He used to play from shooting guard and point guard position. Likewise, he retired in 2014 and started as an assistant coach. He is best known as the assistant coach for Oklahoma City Thunders.

Talking about the career journey of Royal Ivey, he started playing basketball professionally in 2004 and he retired in 2014. He started playing basketball professionally after being selected by the Atlanta Hawks in the 2004 NBA draft.

On 18 September 2007, he signed a one-year contract with the Milwaukee Bucks. On 24 July 2008, he joined the Philadelphia 76ers and opted out of his contract on 15 June 2009.

He rejoined with the 76ers in August 2009. On 18 February 2010, he was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks but he was soon released from the team and signed with Oklahoma City Thunder on 21 July 2010.

On 7 July 2012, he rejoined the 76ers. Further, on 30 September 2013, he signed with the Atlanta Hawks but he was soon released from the team on 25 October 2013. On 16 January 2014, he signed a 10-day contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Ivey joined Guangdong Southern Tigers on 29 July 2014 before his retirement. He announced his retirement from professional basketball in 2014 and started as a coaching staff.

On 29 September 2014, he became the assistant coach for Oklahoma City Blue of the NBA Development League. On 1 July 2016, he became the assistant coach for Oklahoma City Thunder, and still he is active with the team.
